From www.articlealley.com.

Acockatiel needs social interaction in order to thrive. Cockatiels like to do things like eat, groom themselves (preening) and play with members of their flock, so these are some basic needs you will have to fulfill. If you don’t have much spare time to spend wth your bird, consider buying two cockatiels of the same sex so they can interact with each other. Two same sex cockatiels kept together in a large cage will form a strong social bond between themselves.

Cockatiel Care Basic – Maintenance and Cleaning
Change the cage paper daily. Black and white newsprint is alright to use, but don’t use the colored print or glossy advertising inserts. Many of these are colored with lead ink.

Take your cockatiel out before cleaning the cage. For cleaning the cage, the Oxyfresh line of products are ideal. Rinse all toys and the cage thoroughly. Perches should be scraped clean. The product Pet Focus is very good for disinfecting and comes in a ready to use form.

Cockatiels’ down gives off a powdery dust. This is a sign of a healthy bird.

Cockatiel Care Basic – Food and Water
Your cockatiel needs various components in his diet to keep him healthy. Do not feed your bird only seed. You will also need to feed (organic is best) pellets and healthy fresh greens and beans. Foundation Formula and Harrison’s are two organic pellets that can be purchased.

The remainder of your cockatiel’s diet should be organic and consist of greens like rinsed, fresh spinach and kale. Lettuce is not very nutritous and consists mostly of water. Other additives to their diet should be cooked vegetables like pasta, beans, corn, and rice. The use of organic foods are stressed here because there may be pesticide residues on produce and seed that is not organic. Roudybush is not organic, but is a high quality food naturally preserved. Cockatiels prefer this food and will thrive on it.

When you are feeding a diet with pellets, do not add vitamins to the water. Most pellets have vitamins added to them Read the manufacturers instructions on the bag.

Provide clean, fresh water for your cockatiel on a daily basis. The stainless steel cups should be cleaned twice daily if food gets in the water. Do not place the bird’s perches above food and water dishes. If droppings should get in the water, change the water immediately.

Cockatiel care basic is essential if you are going to have a healthy, happy bird. Please visit us at Cockatiel Care Secrets for more free information on caring for your cockatiel.

Pet Shop Located across the Cinema at the Enchanted Lake Shopping Center. Good size, a little empty, but nice assortment of supplies. First shop that actually had live rocks for sale. (If your thinking about nabbing these, be sure you can control the temperature in you aquarium. A cooler than room temperature is important.).

No dogs or cats here, but bunnies, guinea pig, and mice could be found here. As well as a nice selection of Jackson Chameleons, with a variety of lovebirds, cockatiels, parakeets, and finches displayed toward the back. Along the side of the shop were aquariums stocked with Freshwater and Saltwater fish.

Also, one of the few shops that had Crown Betta fish available (Yes, I’m still in to that. Even more so as the betta I bought at Pets Plus is content in sticking its head in its marble stones all day like an cartoon ostrich- and no its not dead.). I have to say, even though small, they had the best selection of betta’s I’ve seen thus far. (Although the water they’re contained in could be changed)

Visited Windward Mall and of course I had to stop by the pet shop where I was greeted by that Pot-Bellied pig on display… hmmm no one wants pork?? Just kidding, or maybe nobody wants to chance going over the Pali with’em.

All kidding aside, it looked like they got a shipment of live stock in. The shop was full as ever and the bird displays, absolutely the best of all the shops I’ve visited so far. Canaries, Parakeets, Conures, Parrots, Finches, Lovebirds, Emerald Pidgeons, Cockatiels, and a full line of consumer bird cages to boot. Complete kits if your interested. (Hint)

Today they also had Bunnies, Guinea Pigs, mix Lab/Pitbull puppies, mixed Shih Tzu/Silky Terrier puppies, and Chihuahua’s. I still haven’t mentioned the leapord frog, turtles, Jackson Chameleons, good selection of freshwater fish, and saltwater fish. Its worth mentioning that the betta fish were on sale for Valentine’s day at the cheapest price I’ve seen.

When you walk in, you’ll get the impression that they have everything you might need. This store has bulk size foods and small bags, large aquariums to betta blocks, small cages to kennel cages, sleeping mats to scratching post, well… you get the idea.

Good selection of live stock to, although I didn’t see any puppies or kittens. I believe puppies are available Sunday mornings only. Birds available were lovebirds, canaries, parakeets, finches, and cockatiels. They had a large selection of freshwater fish and plants, with a small selection of saltwater fish displayed along side. The only small animals I saw today were a few rabbits that were spending the day napping.

Small shop, tightly packed in the corner across Pizza Hut. Sells a decent assortment of accessories. Looks to specialize in freshwater fish stock and supplies. A large variety of fish can be found here from Cichlids, Tetra, Goldfish, Discus, Fighting Fish, among many others, with a good selection of aquariums to display them with if your in the market for that as well. I ended up picking up a Betta Sphere for the office as it was on sale (at the best price I found so far), but then I splurged on the Betta. I bought the full moon tail type…. I like the sound of that for some reason.

The shop also carried a couple of guinea pigs, mice, a couple of cockatiels, canaries, and Jackson chameleons. There was one star that really shined out from the rest, even though there was no lights in the aquarium it swam in. Thats the cichlid in the middle of the banner picture up top. I have never seen a cichlid with such vivid colors, not for sale by the way – this fish would be the pride of any aquarium. I’ll have to do more research on it and add it to my petpedia.

Overall nice shop, tightly cramped though with a great selection of freshwater fish.

Nice shop located at the corner of the band stand, has a little of everything. Nice selection of accessories, although more on the small to medium size of things. Good live stock, of which included bunnies, tortoise, Jackson Chameleons, Parrots, Cockatiels, Finches, freshwater fish, and some puppies. Breeds in stock included miniature poodles, mixed chihuahua/fox terriers, and mixed pomeranian/papillons which I would have bought on the spot, had I the resources to take care of them. (Sigh)

There were some puppies when I visited though they looked older than what I would prefer. I also saw Chinchillas and a selection of birds, of which they had a beautiful selection of finches. Along side the register counter they had a few turtles, a couple of frogs, and a Jackson Chameleon or two.

Great shop located within Windward Mall. Sells a variety of pets and supplies, even showcases exotic pets as well, although they may or may not be for sale. At the time I visited they were attempting to breed the hairless guinea pigs in the above picture and therefore were not for sale. Although they were selling miniature Vietnamese Pot-Bellied Pigs for $699.95. The sign on display states they grow from 35 to 65 pounds (First time I ever saw anything like that for sale at a pet store.).

I have visited the shop on various occasions and they always seem to have a couple of puppy breeds on sale. Usually I see mix-terrier types. Last time I visited they had Golden Retrievers which were already sold by the time I saw them. I have seen kittens once in a while, usually the common breed. Bunnies, dwarf bunnies, and guinea pigs can also be found here. As well as a good assortment of freshwater fish- tetra, goldfish, some cichlids, clown knife and a small selections of saltwater fish, including baby eels. Next to their fish you can find a small selection of turtles and jackson chameleons. They have a good assortment of birds as well, including a variety of parrots.

Overall though this is a nice size shop with a good selection. Everytime I come to Windward mall I find myself walking through to see whats new.
