Holland Lop rabbits are closely related to the Netherlands Dwarf having been crossed with these and the French Lop originally. They are sometimes referred to as the ‘Netherlands Dwarf Lop’ although this is not a name (or breed) recognised by the American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA).

Holland Lops range in size from around 2 3/4 to 4 pounds so are by far the littlest lop on the block. They are bred to look much stockier than they actually are and many people are surprised to feel just how light they are when they pick one up.

How To Spot Holland Lop

These Lops are a very unique looking breed and easy to spot. Of course they have the cute-as-a-bug floppy lop ears (which should be short and wide) but their most distinctive features are the prominent crown on their head (the part between their ears) and small compact body. Their body should be twice as large as their head, compared to a commercial body type where the body is three times as large as the head.

They fall into ‘normal fur type’ and ‘compact body shape’ categories. They are officially recognized in over 20 colors but you’re most likely to see them in White, Black (either broken or solid) and tortoise shell.

Personality

When it comes to personality, Holland Lops shine! While every bunny is an individual these lops are generally friendly, calm and very inquisitive. They are the extroverts of the bunny world and like to be the centre of attention.

Many bunny owners swear that their Holland Lop loves to snuggle and play more than most buns so it’s easy to see why they have become so popular.

Holland Lop rabbits are a great choice for family pets. Their personality and size makes them easy to handle, and their unbearably cute looks make them hard to resist. A great choice!

No dogs or cats here, but bunnies, guinea pig, and mice could be found here. As well as a nice selection of Jackson Chameleons, with a variety of lovebirds, cockatiels, parakeets, and finches displayed toward the back. Along the side of the shop were aquariums stocked with Freshwater and Saltwater fish.

Also, one of the few shops that had Crown Betta fish available (Yes, I’m still in to that. Even more so as the betta I bought at Pets Plus is content in sticking its head in its marble stones all day like an cartoon ostrich- and no its not dead.). I have to say, even though small, they had the best selection of betta’s I’ve seen thus far. (Although the water they’re contained in could be changed)

Passed through Ward Centre today and made a quick stop to see what was in stock. Today in the small animal showcase they had a few green-yellow parakeets, a couple of gray cockatiels, and a love bird playing on one side. A guinea pig and a couple of bunnies resting up on the other side of the display.

Again the main feature were the puppies in the window. A Jack Russell, a few Mixed Chihuahua’s, an AKC long-haired Chihuahua, and a Basenji. The Basenji was eager for attention, begging from all on lookers to take him home. The Ward Pet Spot is one of the few shops that generally has a good assortment of puppies, always worth taking a look at if your in the market for a puppy.

Large Shop located just Ewa of McDonalds in the Ewa Beach Shopping Center. Does that saying still work if your in Ewa? or does it become Waianae side of McDonalds? Ok…

Large Shop located across McDonalds in the Ewa Beach Shopping Center. Carries a variety of everything. Only shop I’ve seen that had cats available, not counting the white cat in this picture which worked hard next to the aquariums making sure there were no live fish on the floor. I was told there was another black cat working but never saw the cat when I visited.

Other live stock available here: saltwater fish, freshwater fish, Bunnies, Parakeets, Conures, Lovebirds, a Cockatoo, Jackson Chameleons, and puppies. Today they had AKC Whippet puppies, a Chihuahua Fox Terrier mix, and Australian Cattle puppies. The Whippets and Cattle puppies were a little more than a couple of months old and were already quite large in size, so make sure you have enough space inside and out of your house if your thinking of picking up these breeds.

Back to the Parakeets, its worth mentioning this is the first shop that I’ve seen pure white Parakeets. (Just in case someone was looking for something out of the ordinary)

Good selection of live stock to, although I didn’t see any puppies or kittens. I believe puppies are available Sunday mornings only. Birds available were lovebirds, canaries, parakeets, finches, and cockatiels. They had a large selection of freshwater fish and plants, with a small selection of saltwater fish displayed along side. The only small animals I saw today were a few rabbits that were spending the day napping.

Nice shop located at the corner of the band stand, has a little of everything. Nice selection of accessories, although more on the small to medium size of things. Good live stock, of which included bunnies, tortoise, Jackson Chameleons, Parrots, Cockatiels, Finches, freshwater fish, and some puppies. Breeds in stock included miniature poodles, mixed chihuahua/fox terriers, and mixed pomeranian/papillons which I would have bought on the spot, had I the resources to take care of them. (Sigh)

Nice looking shop located in the west section of Ward Centre, inside Ward Warehouse. Carries a variety of pet accessories and some of the cutest small animals I’ve seen in a while. This store didn’t have much live stock, but what they had you want to buy. At the time I visited they had some very colorful guinea pigs, a few bunnies, and parakeets. But the main attractions had to be the puppies, a Pomeranian, a Chihuahua, a mixed Terrior/Dachshund, several mixed Chihuahua/Dachshund (These were adorable), and a Jack Russell (I believe).

One of the few shops that does not have live fish for sale, although they do carry accessories for them. Overall a good looking spacious shop, that will have me visiting every time I happen to stroll through Ward.

Warehouse of pet accessories located by the old Costco store. Lots of accessories to choose from. Live stock includes a nice selections of freshwater fish, some saltwater fish, bunnies, tortoise, Jackson Chameleons, Parakeets, and Love birds. I particular liked the flame angelfish which I would have had a picture to show, but the clerk advised me I was not allowed to take any pictures of the store (Go figure).

I have visited the shop on various occasions and they always seem to have a couple of puppy breeds on sale. Usually I see mix-terrier types. Last time I visited they had Golden Retrievers which were already sold by the time I saw them. I have seen kittens once in a while, usually the common breed. Bunnies, dwarf bunnies, and guinea pigs can also be found here. As well as a good assortment of freshwater fish- tetra, goldfish, some cichlids, clown knife and a small selections of saltwater fish, including baby eels. Next to their fish you can find a small selection of turtles and jackson chameleons. They have a good assortment of birds as well, including a variety of parrots.

Overall though this is a nice size shop with a good selection. Everytime I come to Windward mall I find myself walking through to see whats new.
