Treasured for their extravagant colors and flowing fins, Betta fish or Siamese fighting fish succeed in providing a great show piece around the office and at home. They make great pets being small, personable, and pretty low maintenance. If you are one of the many hooked on these beautiful fish, here are some tips on how to keep them:

When purchasing an aquarium, look into buying around 1/2-5 gallons in capacity. 2.5 to 5 gallons is preferred.

Betta bowls should be cleaned once a week. Larger aquariums should have partial water changes of at least 25% once a week.

Feed at least once a day, what it can eat in 5 minutes.

Change the type of food from time to time, the variety helps maintain a healthy fish.

Be sure to have a well ventilated cover for the aquarium, to prevent the fish from jumping out.

Provide a live or artificial plant to supply resting and hiding places for the fish.

Live plants are always preferred.

Aquarium should be placed away from direct sunlight, heating, or air condition vents.

Keep the mirror time down to 30 minutes a day. Anymore stresses out the fish.

If you have a larger aquarium, do invest in a filter, cleaner water is better for everyone.
