Pet Shop Located across the Cinema at the Enchanted Lake Shopping Center. Good size, a little empty, but nice assortment of supplies. First shop that actually had live rocks for sale. (If your thinking about nabbing these, be sure you can control the temperature in you aquarium. A cooler than room temperature is important.).

No dogs or cats here, but bunnies, guinea pig, and mice could be found here. As well as a nice selection of Jackson Chameleons, with a variety of lovebirds, cockatiels, parakeets, and finches displayed toward the back. Along the side of the shop were aquariums stocked with Freshwater and Saltwater fish.

Also, one of the few shops that had Crown Betta fish available (Yes, I’m still in to that. Even more so as the betta I bought at Pets Plus is content in sticking its head in its marble stones all day like an cartoon ostrich- and no its not dead.). I have to say, even though small, they had the best selection of betta’s I’ve seen thus far. (Although the water they’re contained in could be changed)

An idea for the office, what you’ll need:

- Marineland Betta Sphere and lamp (Baby Blue)
- Gemstone marble flat stones (Translucent/white mix)
- (1) Betta fish
- Betta food.

- Be sure to wash both the sphere and gemstones with mild soap, and rinse thoroughly before setting up.

The sphere looks great and really magnifies the image of the fish, allowing you to see the true beauty and personality of your Betta Fish. Yes, they have personality. I found after a few days at work with my fish that I could pass my finger by the sphere and he would puff up, spread its tail in full glory, and try in vain to scare my finger away. Don’t worry I always let’em win. I also found that the fish has good eye sight, I don’t know if its the shape of the sphere that enhances his view, but the fish will track my finger at a distance, follow, and defend its home if my finger intrudes a certain distance to the sphere. (Who needs a mirror.)

Easy maintenance for this setup. Feed 3-4 granules of the feed, once to twice a day. I’ve been feeding twice a day and will change the food to dried worms once or twice a week. Then change the water once a week and don’t forget to cover the sphere with something when you leave for the day. Something that protects and allows ventilation. I use a cd.

Only downside to this setup, the lamp is pretty weak, just enough to brighten the water in the sphere. You also might find your co-workers laughing at you, as you torment your fish with your mighty finger, and giggle like a kid when you achieve your goal of puffing up your fish.

Note: If your interested in getting this setup for yourself, I got it at Moanalua Pets.

Small shop, tightly packed in the corner across Pizza Hut. Sells a decent assortment of accessories. Looks to specialize in freshwater fish stock and supplies. A large variety of fish can be found here from Cichlids, Tetra, Goldfish, Discus, Fighting Fish, among many others, with a good selection of aquariums to display them with if your in the market for that as well. I ended up picking up a Betta Sphere for the office as it was on sale (at the best price I found so far), but then I splurged on the Betta. I bought the full moon tail type…. I like the sound of that for some reason.

The shop also carried a couple of guinea pigs, mice, a couple of cockatiels, canaries, and Jackson chameleons. There was one star that really shined out from the rest, even though there was no lights in the aquarium it swam in. Thats the cichlid in the middle of the banner picture up top. I have never seen a cichlid with such vivid colors, not for sale by the way – this fish would be the pride of any aquarium. I’ll have to do more research on it and add it to my petpedia.

Overall nice shop, tightly cramped though with a great selection of freshwater fish.

Treasured for their extravagant colors and flowing fins, Betta fish or Siamese fighting fish succeed in providing a great show piece around the office and at home. They make great pets being small, personable, and pretty low maintenance. If you are one of the many hooked on these beautiful fish, here are some tips on how to keep them:

When purchasing an aquarium, look into buying around 1/2-5 gallons in capacity. 2.5 to 5 gallons is preferred.

Betta bowls should be cleaned once a week. Larger aquariums should have partial water changes of at least 25% once a week.

Feed at least once a day, what it can eat in 5 minutes.

Change the type of food from time to time, the variety helps maintain a healthy fish.

Be sure to have a well ventilated cover for the aquarium, to prevent the fish from jumping out.

Provide a live or artificial plant to supply resting and hiding places for the fish.

Live plants are always preferred.

Aquarium should be placed away from direct sunlight, heating, or air condition vents.

Keep the mirror time down to 30 minutes a day. Anymore stresses out the fish.

If you have a larger aquarium, do invest in a filter, cleaner water is better for everyone.
