Scientific name: Megalamphodus sweglesi (also Hyphessobrycon sweglesi) Temperature: 72 – 82°F pH: 5.5-7.5 Diet: Omnivore Temperment: Good community fish. May harass and nip smaller fish.
The Red Phantom has a transparent red body with the intensity depending on diet and activity. The Red Phantom prefers lots of plants, driftwood and rocks. Schools of 6 or more are a real eye catcher in the aquarium as they will swim around all areas of the aquarium in intricate displays. Feeding should consist of food flakes, brine shrimp, and freeze-dried bloodworms or live bloodworms, as alway variety is the key. Again, these tetra are fine in a community situation, although smaller fish may become the target of relentless harassment and fin nipping. They tend do best in a tank with other similar sized and active fish
Located on Ward, behind First Hawaiian Bank. Been re-arranged since I used to visit before I made this blog. Its more open now, which gives the shop a bigger feel. Still carries a good assortment of accessories and I have to say, just when I thought I couldn’t find any more exotic pets, I find ducklings! Good price too, don’t think I can have one though.
Shops also carries a nice variety of freshwater fish (some nice discus fish available), a few saltwater fish, a red-ear slider turtle, Jackson Chameleons, and a few birds. Of which they had pure white and pure yellow parakeets, finches, lovebirds, and canaries.
I’m still in my Betta Fish phase for the office, so I ended up picking up a red crown at a very low price.
Ward Centre: Ward Warehouse (591-1990) Business Hours: Mon-Sat from 10-9pm and Sunday from 10-6pm.
Passed through Ward Centre today and made a quick stop to see what was in stock. Today in the small animal showcase they had a few green-yellow parakeets, a couple of gray cockatiels, and a love bird playing on one side. A guinea pig and a couple of bunnies resting up on the other side of the display.
Again the main feature were the puppies in the window. A Jack Russell, a few Mixed Chihuahua’s, an AKC long-haired Chihuahua, and a Basenji. The Basenji was eager for attention, begging from all on lookers to take him home. The Ward Pet Spot is one of the few shops that generally has a good assortment of puppies, always worth taking a look at if your in the market for a puppy.
